Belgrade, 19 September: Democratic Party of Serbia [DSS, headed by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica] today told FoNet that Albanian separatists had publicly proclaimed that violence and terror were their instruments to achieve Kosovo independence. Responding to Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kole Berisha's statement that postponing independence could lead to "an uprising by the people" in Kosovo, Mladenovic assessed that it would be fatal for the international community to succumb to separatists' blackmail and then "even reward them for making these threats". Did UN special envoy Martti Ahtisaari forget what his mandate was or is he going to join threats by Albanian separatists - or is he, for the first time, going to assume the position of a neutral mediator, and most harshly respond to Berisha's call to arms, Mladenovic asked. One should recall that Berisha is also a member of the [Kosovo] Albanian negotiation team, Mladenovic said.
